Ralph Fowler’s winemaking career started in 1971 with Tyrrell’s Wines in Hunter Valley and he was one of the key people in the development of the now famous Tyrrell’s wines.

He joined Hungerford Hill Wines in 1980 and was responsible for making the 1983 Hungerford Hill Riesling from its Coonawarra vineyards winning Champion White Wine Of Show 7 times, 14 trophies and 28 gold medals over two years.

In 1990, he joined The Hamilton Wine Group (well known for its Leconfield and Hamilton Label).  One of the highlights of his career was in 1996 when he garnered a total of 5 trophies for Leconfield 1995 Shiraz.  This included Best Wine of Show and he was named Winemaker of the Year winning the Singapore Airlines Trophy at the Adelaide Wine Show – one of the most prestigious Wine Shows in Australia’s Wine Circuit.

After 30 years in the industry, Ralph and his wife - Deborah bought a property in the Mount Benson region, and planted Shiraz and Viognier and has finally decided to release wines of their own emphasizing terroir, structure, elegance and finesse.  He focuses on Shiraz and Viognier but also produces a small amount of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon and has also released limited quantities of Barrel Fermented dessert wines.

Since the release of his first wine (1997 Limestone Coast Shiraz), Ralph has won many accolades from wine writers (including James Halliday and Robert Parker) and consumers both domestically as well as abroad.

Ralph has also consulted in the development of new wine companies Norfolk Rise and Cape Jaffa in Mount Benson and Parker Coonawarra Estate and was involved in the restoration of winemaking at Chateau Tanunda in the Barossa Valley.
